Bromine Diffusion (4D50.45)

Description:

Two glass tubes containing bromine and bromine/air are cooled in liquid nitrogen and allowed to warm back up to show rates of diffusion. The bromine only tube will diffuse faster than the bromine/air mixture.

Procedure or Operation Notes:

WARNING: Bromine is both toxic and corrosive.

Place the stand so that the bottom ends of the tubes are in contact with liquid nitrogen. Wait for the bromine vapor to condense (approximately 90 seconds). Remove the stand and let the tubes warm up to room temperature.
